A WES Regional Training on how to reach a much needed “new water culture” in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is among the most arid regions in the world. While the region holds only 3% of global water resources it hosts over 50% of the world's water poor populations, around 180 million people, according to FAO. Human-made pressures, such as population growth, urbanization, water intensive agriculture, tourism and other industries, together with misuse, keep increasing water demand.   Technical solutions alone are not enough. A “new water culture” of sensitized citizens is needed, people who respond positively by [...]

Water and Environment Support (WES) project tackles non-revenue water issues through a new activity to allow better use of scarce water resources in Jordan.

Jordan ranks as one of the water-poorest countries worldwide, with renewable water resources available per person significantly below the global baseline for absolute water scarcity. While water service coverage reaches 94% of the population (2014), it is estimated that nearly half of this water is non-revenue water (NRW). Within this context, and in support of Jordan’s ongoing efforts to reduce NRW, the EU-funded WES project is launching a national activity on the "Elaboration of non-revenue water policy for Jordan". [...]

Best practices in achieving waste reduction in the Mediterranean

The aim was to identify (through a stakeholder consultation), document, and disseminate key best practices to improve the implementation of the 3Rs (reduction, recycling and reuse) for municipal waste in eight countries of the southern Mediterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia. The cases included are of varying scale and [...]

WES Regional Training on Water Demand Management

The EU funded WES project is organising an online Regional Training on Water Demand Management (WDM) to build the capacity of the WES Partner Countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia) on WDM, as a mean to influence water demand and usage of water and meet economic efficiency, social development, environmental protection, sustainability of water supply and services. The training focuses on the water demand management targeting the non-agricultural consumers. Its first session began on the [...]
